We are excited to announce the appointment of Aminah Harris as President of Elevation Scholars!
A seasoned leader and advocate for educational equity, Aminah brings more than 15 years of experience transforming the lives of underrepresented youth. Starting as one of the organization’s first full-time hires, she swiftly rose to program director, overseeing a diverse team and managing operations that serve over 300 students annually.
“I am excited to continue leveraging my passion for education equality and student development to advance the mission of Elevation Scholars as president,” Harris said.
Under Aminah’s leadership, Elevation Scholars has seen tremendous growth, expanding from an initial cohort of five scholars to over 140 — many of whom are attending the top colleges and universities across the country.
Aminah will replace the organization’s original founder, Scott Lee. Under Scott’s leadership, Elevation Scholars grew from five students, including Princeton and Duke University graduates. Under Scott and Aminah’s direction, the Scholars program now includes over 140 scholars and has raised over $1.67 million.
“Aminah epitomizes everything this organization represents,” said Scott Lee, outgoing president of Elevation Scholars. “Her unwavering dedication to empowering underrepresented youth in their pursuit of higher education has inspired all of us at Elevation and will no doubt continue to propel the organization forward.”
Aminah’s commitment to the nonprofit sector is deeply rooted in her own journey as a first-generation college student. Her career began with the College Reach-Out Program, where she mentored students and facilitated career and college exposure opportunities.
“This transition marks the beginning of a new era at Elevation,” Lee added. “It has been my honor to work alongside Aminah for the past seven years, and I look forward to witnessing the Elevation team’s ongoing success.”
Aminah graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. She resides in Orlando with her husband and three children.
