For our first staff spotlight, we caught up with our Manager of College Admissions, Gaslande Fleurimont, MPA, CNP. Our Scholars are so fortunate to have the most qualified and dedicated professionals supporting them along their journey.
Under Gaslande’s leadership, more than 90 percent of our students are admitted to institutions ranked in the top 30 percent by US News and World Reports.
Gaslande sees high school, college decisions, and degree attainment as pivotal moments in an individual’s life. These milestones are not just personal achievements but opportunities to become conduits of change.
“I believe our students are destined to do great things, and Elevation serves as a guide in that journey,” Gaslande says.
Gaslande’s upbringing mirrors that of many students she serves. As a first-generation Haitian American, she navigated the challenges of being the first in her family to attend college. Growing up in a single-parent household, she witnessed the sacrifices her mother made, working multiple jobs to make ends meet. Despite not having the same privileges as some of her peers, Gaslande never saw herself as disadvantaged.
“In Palm Beach County, where I grew up, wealth and luxury are obvious, so I knew that I didn’t have the same privileges as others, but I knew what to strive for,” she reflects.
Gaslande’s mother instilled in her the belief that excelling in education was the key to a better life in the U.S.
Beyond the drive to change her circumstances, Gaslande developed a love for learning and academia. Her upbringing in the church also exposed her to the transformative power of service and kindness.
“Education is a part of my identity,” she declares, emphasizing her desire to be a part of the solution and help as many people as possible through education.
When she’s not busy supporting our scholars, Gaslande enjoys reading, watching documentaries, trying new restaurants, visiting museums, practicing yoga, and podcasting.
Gaslande’s commitment to Elevation Scholars is rooted in her personal experiences, a dedication to service, and a belief in the transformative power of education. As she continues to guide students on their journey, she remains a beacon of inspiration, advocating for empowerment and positive change through the pursuit of knowledge.
Thank you for all you do, Gaslande!
