Our Scholars are the inspiration that keeps our mission alive and going. Every one of our Scholars has left a special mark on our organization in one way or another, and today, we’re sharing an experience from one of our former students.
Flor Salcedo joined us in 2016 and has since graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2021 with her bachelor’s in Biology. We were excited for the opportunity to hear from her recently.
How did you learn about Elevation Scholars?
I applied for the program during my junior year of high school and was lucky enough to be awarded a spot as an Elevation Scholar.
Why did you want to become an Elevation Scholar?
I saw it as an opportunity that would benefit me and guide me through college. Since I didn’t have that knowledge or support at home, I was able to navigate finding the right college for me with their program.
Why is the work of Elevation Scholars so important?
They give a chance to students who would probably not know their potential without guidance. They see the potential of a student even when that student doesn’t see it in themselves. I will never be able to explain how much Elevation Scholars means to me. I consider everyone who helped me, family.
If you could use one word to describe Elevation Scholars, what would it be?
Life-changing.
Flor and every Scholar who has come through our program has overcome great barriers and risen to greatness! Although our journeys with them are only 5 ½ years, we hope our relationships with each student last a lifetime.
